Large memory spikes when processing images

We are seeing large spikes in memory during image processing. The memory consumption spike is linearly correlated with the number of images being processed. See this attached video of usage of mlx_vlm in LM Studio, and note in the lower right corner how the memory increases when processing images, before dropping back down. Finding ways to optimize the memory usage would be greatly appreciated.
