Your wallet.dat is crucial to run your DeFi app and access to your funds. Making frequent wallet backup is advised, it could be prior an update of an app version / when a mandatory upgrade is necessary / for a peace of mind. You could store it on a thumb drive, in the Cloud, or on another folder in your PC. Kindly understand that your wallet is your responsibility.
1. If you have not backup your wallet before, go to the menu bar and select backup wallet.
2. A pop up will appear for you to specify where to backup wallet
• By default, it'll be located in DeFi/wallets (Mac) & DeFi Blockchain\wallets (Win) respectively.
Windows — C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\DeFi Blockchain\wallets\wallet.dat
Mac — Go to Folder: /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/DeFi/wallets/wallet.dat
3. For users who would like to specify another folder, you may do so as well.
• Direct the app to where you would like to save the wallet backup, give your wallet.dat a unique name and save.
Restore Wallet from Backup
In such an event where you need to access another wallet backup such as;
• switching between wallets
• PC crashed and just did a reinstallation
• switch PC and would like to use the 2nd PC from now onwards
• Node is disconnected and just did a re-synchronization
just to name a few. This guide is for you, refer to the following.
1. Ensure app is 100% synchronized (green tick at bottom left hand corner), select Restore wallet via backup (wallet.dat)
2. A window should pop up, direct the app to your wallet.dat location
• In the wallets folder you'll likely see wallet-bak-123456789 as well, these are additional backups.
• Select the wallet.dat
*Note: the wallets folder is a default location and should not be moved
3. Another possible scenario, could be that you saved it in another folder.
• For example, I saved the wallet backup in Documents/_BACKUP
• Hence, I'd redirect the app to the folder Documents/_BACKUP, and select the wallet.dat
Leave the app to run for awhile, your balances should reflect as per the wallet.dat selected.
