<p>The coalition of organizations behind StopWatching.us takes your privacy seriously. Among our fundemental principles:</p>

	<li>We do not sell our email list. We do not share or distribute your contact information unless specifically stated so.</li>
	<li>We don’t ask you for personal information unless we truly need it.</li>
	<li>We don’t share your personal information with anyone except when absolutely necessary for the functionality of the site, to comply with the law, or protect our rights.</li>
	<li>We don’t store personal information on our servers unless required for a specific organizational effort, such as delivering a message to congress or in order to communicate with you about an upcoming effort.</li>

<h3>Website Visitors</h3>

<p>Like most website operators, StopWatching.us collects non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. StopWatching.us’s purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how StopWatching.us’s visitors use its website. From time to time, StopWatching.us may share non-personally-identifying information in the aggregate with organizations and employees of organizations that are members of the coalition, e.g., for example the number of visitors or signups during a particular period.</p>

<p>StopWatching.us also collects potentially personally-identifying information like Internet Protocol (IP) addresses for users who sign up for events or register to join the coalition in an organized action. StopWatching.us only discloses logged in user and commenter IP addresses under the same circumstances that it uses and discloses personally-identifying information as described below.</p>

<h3>Gathering of Personally-Identifying Information</h3>

<p>Certain visitors to StopWatching.us's websites choose to interact with StopWatching.us in ways that require StopWatching.us to gather personally-identifying information. The amount and type of information that StopWatching.us gathers depends on the nature of the interaction. For example, we ask visitors who sign up to attend an event to provide an email address and phone number so that we may contact them. Those who engage in actions with StopWatching.us – by signing a petition or sending an email to Congress, for example – are asked to provide additional information, including as necessary the personal information required to process those actions. In each case, StopWatching.us collects such information only insofar as is necessary or appropriate to fulfill the purpose of the visitor’s interaction with StopWatching.us. StopWatching.us does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below. And visitors can always refuse to supply personally-identifying information, with the caveat that it may prevent them from engaging in certain website-related activities.</p>

<h3>Third-party services</h3>

<p>Personal Data is collected for the following purposes and using the following services:

	<li>Disqus Inc. (<a href="http://help.disqus.com/customer/portal/articles/466259-privacy-policy">privacy policy</a>) - For providing commenting features on blog posts.</li>
	<li>The Rocket Science Group, LLC d/b/a MailChimp (<a href="http://mailchimp.com/legal/privacy/">privacy policy</a>) - For storing email addresses, event RSVPs, and emailing users.</li>
	<li>Shareprogress (<a href="http://www.shareprogress.org/privacy/">privacy policy</a>) - For the purpose of a/b testing and optimization of messaging in Twitter, Facebook, and email share links.</li>
	<li>Highrise, by 37signals (<a href="https://highrisehq.com/privacy">privacy policy</a>) - For the purpose of managing outreach to attendees and signing up volunteers.</li>
</ul>

<p>In order the use particular features of the site, you may be required to share your personally-identifying information with these third-party service providers for the purpose of enabling the functionality of the site, and in some instances, for example signing up for a mail list or event, we may give one or more of these service providers limited access to the personally-identifying information that is reasonably necessary to deliver the service.</p>

<h3>Aggregated Statistics</h3>

<p>StopWatching.us may collect statistics about the behavior of visitors to its websites. For instance, StopWatching.us may monitor the number of users who've signed up for an event or who've visited a particular page on the website. StopWatching.us may display the agregrated statistics with members of the coalition or make them available publicly. However, StopWatching.us does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below.</p>

<h3>Protection of Certain Personally-Identifying Information</h3>

<p>StopWatching.us discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only to members of the coalition, contractors and affiliated organizations that (i) need to know that information in order to process it on StopWatching.us’s behalf or to provide services available at StopWatching.us’s websites, and (ii) that have agreed not to disclose it to others. Some of those contractors and affiliated organizations may be located outside of your home country; by using StopWatching.us’s websites, you consent to the transfer of such information to them. </p>

<p>StopWatching.us will not rent or sell potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information to anyone. Other than to to coalition members, contractors and affiliated organizations, as described above, StopWatching.us discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only in response to a subpoena, court order or other governmental request, or when StopWatching.us believes in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the property or rights of StopWatching.us, third parties or the public at large. If you are a registered user of an StopWatching.us website and have supplied your email address, StopWatching.us may occasionally send you an email to tell you about new actions or events, solicit your feedback, or just keep you up to date with what’s going on with StopWatching.us and our efforts. We primarily use our  blog to communicate this type of information, so we expect to keep this type of email to a minimum.  StopWatching.us takes all measures reasonably necessary to protect against the unauthorized access, use, alteration or destruction of potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information.</p>

<h3>Cookies</h3>

<p>A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor’s computer, and that the visitor’s browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns. StopWatching.us uses cookies to help StopWatching.us identify and track visitors, their usage of StopWatching.us website, and their website access preferences. StopWatching.us visitors who do not wish to have cookies placed on their computers should set their browsers to refuse cookies before using StopWatching.us’s websites.</p>

<h3>End of life personal data usage</h3>

<p>If the StopWatching.us coalition is at some point disbanded, user information would not be transferred or acquired by a third party.</p>

<h3>Privacy Policy Changes</h3>

<p>Although most changes are likely to be minor, StopWatching.us may change its Privacy Policy from time to time, and in StopWatching.us’s sole discretion. StopWatching.us encourages visitors to frequently check this page for any changes to its Privacy Policy. Your continued use of this site after any change in this Privacy Policy will constitute your acceptance of such change.</p>
