I have the character sheet set to "automatically add downtime" but when I apply an "advancement" DM reward, the character does not gain downtime. I get the same result if the "automatically add downtime" box is set to "no".
There does not appear to be any way to directly add downtime from advancement DM rewards.
A workaround is to make a new log entry only for the downtime.

what's all this crap about men having to hold in their sorrow and grief
and disappointment?"
